Who Was That Lady?
With David Robinson and Dave Wyatt
Sat 24 Jan 1100hrs Watershed
As with theatre, it seems that men dragging up was a staple of silent film comedy from the very beginning. Chaplin, Lloyd and Keaton disguised as women occasionally; Arbuckle and Laurel & Hardy more frequently, and a few silent comedians positively made a career out of it. David Robinson and Dave Wyatt present sex change surprises galore plus a rare and restored gem, Snub Pollard's Years to Come, set in a future where men's and women's roles are reversed

The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain
Sat 24 Jan 2000hrs Bristol Old Vic
The Ukulele Orchestra is a group of all-singing, all-strumming Ukulele players, who believe that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the Ukulele. They perform the world premiere of a brand-new silent film project at Slapstick 09, developed in partnership with the BFI National Archive, showing short pieces of classic silent films and adding their own unique musical accompaniment.
A concert by the Ukulele Orchestra is a foot-stomping experience, featuring only the "bonsai guitar" and a menagerie of voices. You may never think about music in the same way again.
This event at slapstick festival is another chance to see them in Bristol, after their sell-out performances at St George’s this month.
Tickets: £5-£20 (Call Box Office: 0117 987 7877)
