Douglas Maclean was one of the biggest stars of light comedies in American silent film. Most of his 23 features are lost, incomplete or inaccessible and so his name, face and films are completely unknown today. In “One a Minute” Maclean plays a young lawyer who returns home to run the family drug store, which is facing fierce competition from a competing chain store across the street. He devises a plan to market a panacea from a secret formula which, ironically, turns out to be the real thing. Introduced by film historian Kevin Brownlow.

With live piano accompaniment from John Sweeney. With special thanks to Ben Model.
Film preserved by the Library of Congress, presented here in new restorations by Undercrank Productions.
